The Nonprofit Show: Protecting Staff from Burnout

In this episode of “The Nonprofit Show,” a daily live video broadcast, Anthony Sartori, Executive Director and Founder of Evolving Minds, joins Julia Patrick to talk about protecting nonprofit staff from burnout. He discusses how to identify signs of burnout in an individual and how the greater organizational culture at a workplace can contribute to employee burnout.

Anthony emphasizes, by quoting U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, that social connection in the workplace is a fundamental human need. Too many employers, he says, don’t realize that cultivating connection among colleagues can help to combat burnout.

The good news, he shares, is that there is a reimagining of the workplace happening right now. Employees are looking for employers that value workplace mental health and employers are starting to get the message.

At Evolving Minds, Anthony uses connection exercises to help those employers boost workplace mental health and build meaningful relationships among colleagues. He discusses some of his techniques, and also says one of the keys to improving work environments in the long term is slowing down the unsustainable pace of today’s workplace.
